I am considering a pair of spotted mandarins and would like some advice with QT of them. I QT everything that goes into my tank, usually between 6-12 weeks and have had great success with it in the past with tangs, wrasse, anthias, angels etc.

I usually treat with hypo and prazzi, should i do anything different with these? I plan on using sponge or stocking to harverst POD from the disease free DT for diet.

Thanks
Ryan

I wouldn't hesitate with the prazi but I wouldn't worry so much about the hypo. I think a good observation period would fine. QT is great for them though cause they will learn to eat prepared foods off the sand bed in time. Mine even learned to eat pellets. They make great little scavengers as well as hunters.

thanks for the advise, i run a barebottom for my QT, is this an issue?
reason for adding them is for pod control which are overloading my DT.

If you manage to find someone who can bring in ORA fish could you share the information with me please ryan? Id be very interested to know if you find a supplier. Ill ask the next time im at a LFS and will inform you if i turn up any results aswell.

As far as qt'ing mandarins, Ive read that many people skip the entire process with mandarins since they are supposedly resistant to ich due to their skin and slime coat. Id still ere on the side of caution though and put it through a qt process. I havent read about mandarins in a few years so please double check what ive said but i also seem to remember reading that they are highly sensitive to copper based medications so you may want to be careful with the preemptive treatments and medications
