QT-ing new fish, QT current display fish?

hello all,

Tomorrow I am going to pick up a fish that I am planning on putting directly into a QT tank. After a week of relaxation/adjustment/feeding, I plan on starting Tank Transfer method and Praziquantinel prophylactically (unless the fish begins to show signs of either illness before the tx. start date, if this is the case I will begin treatment immediately). My main question is, I have a single fish in my display tank (I know what a number!), I have never QT'd anything before and I'm worried about the current resident giving something to the new fish after it's addition to the Display. The current resident is a neon dottyback, it has never shown any signs of illness to date. What are your insights? Should I just pull him out and begin him on the same regimen as the new fish or not? Thanks for looking,

- Kevin

what size is your dt? dottybacks can be holy terrors. if he's been in your dt for a few months, i wouldn't think he'd have anything he can pass on to a new fish. depending on the size of your dt, you may very well have aggression issues from him with any new fish you add. if you aren't emotionally attached to him, i'd get him out of there and if you can, maybe return him for a trade on something else.

New fish is a Marine Betta, I've heard they're pretty disease resistant, but I'd rather be safe than sorry and just QT it. The tank is a 55 gallon. The goby's aggressive behavior was another reason for thinking about pulling him and just give him to the LFS. I have a feeling the goby might tear up the marine Betta.

I would give the existing fish to the LFS. A marine betta will make your 55 gallon look a bit small.

Thanks for all of the input I really appreciate it, I think I will just give them the goby. Snorvich, are you thinking the tank may be too small for the Betta? if this is the case, I don't really want to cramp it in my tank and will just let some one else with a bigger tank take it.

They get relatively large but they are not active fish, primarily reclusive so the tank size is probably ok.

Okay, I've been reading into them and the main problem I see people having with them is the reclusive nature you mention.

Thanks for the insight everyone, now to catch that dottyback. Sorry, I've realized I have been referring to the neon dottyback as a goby, I hope this hasn't caused confusion.

Gobies United may resent it.

Lol, I looked up neon goby and I feel bad for wrongfully incriminating the little guys. The Neon Dottyback is trying to find a new home through the LFS and the marine betta is in QT settling in.

good decision!

i was confuseled at first but then, i live in the land of confusion so it's nothing new for me. :)
