QT Question: What Would YOU Do? On The Bright Side: No Poll!

Currently, I've got 2 fish (both wrasse) about half way through quarantine; finishing up their first dose of Prazi. Then just today, I get a call from an online vendor letting me know that 4 fish (3 anthias and 1 butterfly) that I've been waiting for for months have just come in. And they absolutely cannot hold them after this weekend.

Since there is no way I'm just going to toss the new ones into the DT, my choices are these: Start the QT period over again with the new fish though it'll mean that I'll have 6 fish in a 20g QT tank for six weeks AND the 2 original fish will go through a total of three Prazi baths. OR. Toss the 2 original fish into the DT early (and after only 1 bath), quickly turn over the QT for the new guys and hope for the best?

Lotta numbers in this post upon re-reading but it's the best I can do in hopes of explaining the situation clearly. Thanks again. Other suggestions welcome.

How about setting up another QT? It might cost an extra $75 or so, and some more junk to store, but it's a safe choice.

Reach out to your local reef club. See if anyone has a tank you can borrow. Upside is you make a new friend and you don't have 'some more junk' to store! :)

I agree with the others, As soon as you add new guys to healthy members of the QT Murphy's law kicks in. Same goes for rushing fish to the DT.

I think I'd set up a second quarantine. What's the butterfly?

Muelleri Copperband; my absolute favorite. Last one passed on after 7+ years.

Anyway, I'm kind of surprised that I haven't gotten any "just dump the older fish into the DT" responses. The 2nd QT tank is certainly the smarter way to go though, it's just that my space is very limited and the thought of having to shop for another tank the day before Mother's Day isn't going to make for a good time either. Might cost me a round shoe shopping...or worse, a 'coming of age' movie.

A relatively small cost (the former) and still worth it (the latter).

I think those of us who have been burned by not being completely paranoid on QT procedures are plentiful and won't make the same mistake again. If ick gets in the DT you'll be set back months or years depending.

Got the new 20g this morning. And to whom it may concern, the old 'Free-Aquarium-With-Every-Box-Of-Chocolates-This-Mother's-Day-Sale' line no longer works.

lol... I had to read parts of this to my boyfriend and tell him, "I know I have an expensive hobby but at least it's not shoes and purses." :D

Of course, he got me a Mother's Day card that said on the front, "None of your kids are in prison."
