QT question

I have three questions about QT for some fish.

1. I have a couple of tangs (unicorn and a bristle tooth) that have been through TTM and then in QT for four weeks. I assume that if they are not showing any signs they are good to go in the main tank.

2. I have a single Anthia that was in TTM for only three swaps. It became stressed out with two other s(which died) and so I move it to its own tank (10 gallon) and it has been in there for six weeks. There are no signs of ich or any other disease. Can I assume it is likely free from disease or should I try to monitor it for longer.

3. If I was to place a fish in QT with no proactive treatment and just monitored it for a period of four to six weeks would it be likely if white spot would show up if the fish already was a host.

Thanks

Marc

Yes

Ich can be present without visible symptoms.

Ich can be present without visible symptoms. However, after six weeks, other parasites would exhibit symptoms.

Thanks

Thanks Steve. I assumed that if ich was present however it would show. Or are you suggesting it could be present but not in sufficient numbers to develop any visible symptoms. If that is the case I will take the anthia through TTM before I release him into the main tank.

Thanks

Yes, ich would not necessarily have visible symptoms. That is why I always use TTM to insure that parasite is removed.

I would say that this applies to other parasites as well.

Are you saying that just to be argumentative? In the case of TTM ich is removed so that is not an issue any longer.

With a practiced eye (such as yours, I assume), I can usually tell behaviorally if a fish has a problem, just not always what the problem is. Since based on your previous posts, you have never experienced amyloodinium (velvet), you might not have the eye for that behavior pattern but I can assure you the behavior is very obvious. In the case of ich, behavior in the beginning of an infestation, is not obvious unless you are adept at estimating gill respiration rate. Sure flashing is a good indicator but that does not happen initially in the case of gill infestation only.

Considering how easy it is I will run TTM for the fish prior to putting them into the main tank. I have everything setup to do it so it is only an extra couple of weeks.

Cheers
