QT tank basics?

How important is it to QT the new fish going into my 29g?. I have a 10g and a 2.5g a spare hob filter and heater. So if I can get the space, I should probably get a qt tank going for new fish. What do you dose the water with when you add the new fish? And how long do you keep it in there for?

Can I use my water changing water from my main tank as water for the qt?

Also can I put 2 yellow tang in my 29g?:spin2::spin2::spin2:

Thanks

Sounds like you have the right equipment and yes, use your DT water to bring over bacteria to cycle your QT. if you search QT on the site you will see opinions of people who treat with cupramine, prazipro, none or both. Read them all and make an educated decision of your own.

I love the humor.

It is as important as you value your DT. Regardless of where you get your fish from, you should QT. It can't hurt.

You don't have to dose anything when you put a fish in your QT. This QT time is for the fish to get fat, and relax so that they are more comfortable before they go in your DT.

You are also looking for signs of sickness while they are in there as well, so that you can treat it before it enters your DT.
