QT Tank - setting up?

I have never used one, but I know it's time to start. I've always had freshwater and never run into a problem, I've probably been lucky.

So, I have a spare 5g that I housed a betta in, it has a small filter.

Can I use as my QT? I'm confused on this because doesn't it need to cycle?

Can I make it temporary because I won't want it sitting anywhere empty?

thank you! Trying to do right by my new tank & it's potential inhabitants.

This can help http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2195588&highlight=quarantine+tank

I had one of those betta tanks before could be small if you get some larger fish like a Pseudoanthias pleurotaenia (Pink Square Anthias) but I'm sure you can use your judgment on your expected fish :)

I would just do the set-up as outlined above and ghost-feed to cycle the QT obviously checking ammonia so it isn't a death bin. Some people use rubbermaid containers for QT instead of a proper glass tank

looks like someone already linked you to my blog. i wrote this guide a while back and its pretty much step by step in detail how to setup a qt. read through it and if you have any questions feel free to contact or post.
good luck
thanks farfromsea
