Do i need live rock and sand to set up a QT tank?

No. PVC fittings, a heater, PH for circulation, at least an air driven sponge filter. Read my sig too. I overkill on my QT. No problems for my fish at all.

no actually the sand and live rock could harbor unwanteds when qting fish. Along with PVC for hiding places, keep the qt tank in a low traffic area to keep the critters as calm as possible
