QT Tank

hey gang. i am in a hurry to setup a small qt. I purchased a very small powder blue and i have it in a 40g setup now with plans to switch to a rather large display in the future. Well the tang appears to have ich. due to time and space restraints i have a 6g rubber maid container making water for a hypo. What kind of filtration will i need? will some LR be fine or should i setup something else?

I have the same question. Trying to setup a QT tank in a 5 gallon bucket. Would a powerhead and a small bag of bioballs work? I was thinking of aiming the powerhead at the bioballs so the water circulates on them.

i don't think that a 6g setup would provide adequate water volume for even a very small powder blue tang. in all likelihood you're going to run into problems where such a small volume of water would become polluted rather quickly, leading to ammonia toxicity. i would recommend a much larger quarantine system, or consider treating the fish in your current 40g tank.

just for comparison, i have a small/medium PBT in a 65g quarantine system right now and i think that the fish is too confined. i honestly do not think that a 6g container is at all realistic. you really need to find something much bigger.
