qt "worked" again

picked myself up a nice fat tailspot blenny about 3 weeks ago. fish looked heathy and ate at the lfs. placed him my qt( a established /fishless 10 gallon system ) fish ate well ,and appeared to be in good heath. 3 weeks go by and it looks a bit stressed sunday. monday he looks great /eats well. tues dead. sucks when a fish dies for apparently no reason.

Wow! Sry man. Is qt'ing a necessity? I've only been in the "game" for a year and change, and have never had a fish qt'd a fish...I temp acclim, swap some water out for a bit..then into dt they go!

QT is a hotly debated topic.

I have the space and means at school to set up a QT tank. After battling ich once, all fish are QT'ed and dosed with copper and Prazipro for a 4-week period to keep all parasites out of the display tank.

dump and pray works for many . i'd rather risk one fish at a time, and give fish a chance to acclimate in stressfree environment. my qt is basically a nano . it gives me a chance to observe fish and coral without risking my entire tank.

I'm not looking to debate or cause strife fellas...just trying to be a sponge and learn from you all.

I do have the space and spare tanks to set one up though...I will research some more.

do it, I did for a bit and then stopped out of laziness, now my tank is fallow for the past 6 weeks cause I had ich and letting it clear out.

I had a trio of lyretail anthias up and die over two days while in QT, started being sluggish and hiding, then dead the next day. The mardarin with them was fine. Made me wonder what happened to them and what would have happened if they were in the DT.

tough call with the anthias. mandrins might get a ticket straight to hollywood as well.

Fingers crossed on the mandarin, he has been ok for a few weeks since this all went down. He is getting a few extra weeks in QT to be safe.

If it was an ich thing with the Anthias, the Mandarin might be safe. Mandarins are not prone to getting ich. However, most Mandarins feed from copepods while Anthias need multiple small feeding per day of a nice well rounded diet. What did the Mandarin say happened?

Had to battle ich myself. Tearing apart a 120 to get the remaining fish out was a lesson learned indeed, so I will forever qt a new fish.
