Quad City Area

Hey all, just moved from the Minniapolis area to the Quad Cities, actually DeWitt. Looking to meet up with anyone interested in establishing or joining a monthly reef meeting in the area. Maybe there is one going on that I don't know about. Anyway just trying to make contacts and see if anyone is intereseted in trading frags down the road. Its a little harder down here with less of a metropolitan statistical area, fewer stores, people interested, etc. I have visited the store in Davenport and hopefully there is something better around! insight would be great.

Yep there are bunch of reefers in the QC

Sea of Marvels is ok for fish, but you cant beat Aquatic Enviornments in Dav if you are a true reefer.

Not sure what store you visited in Davenport, but I guessing it was Pet Depot and not Aquatic Environments. IMO, Aquatic is the best store in the state and puts up a good arguement for the midwest. Sea of Marvels is another great store as well, but overall I personally would choose AE.

There are a lot of people in the QC area, myself included. Not all of us sadly have the time to spend as much time in the hobby as we would like to though. :(

Welcome to GIRS and Reef Central!

Aquatic is the best Saltwater specialty store in the QC for sure. I visited a LFS that was in Iowa city cant remember the name( do remember an old wooden floor) i wasn't impressed.

You must of visited coralville bay. Kinda near the Walgreens? The floods this summer wiped it out anyway, and it looks like a furniture store went in there now. I'm not sure if they rebuilt anywhere, maybe someone else knows.
I have to agree that Aquatic Environments is one of the best around for reef, you'd have to go to Chicago to find anything of similar quality. Sea of Marvels does have some really nice fish, but I wasn't very impressed with the coral and dry goods selection.

Right now the QC area is kind of lacking with monthly meetings, tank tours and over all get togethers. Kevin and I are hoping to change that this year and we are planning to meet this Sunday. Check out the Greater Iowa Reef Society site and take a quick look around.

I haven't heard of Coralville Bay reopening anywhere and I can't say that I'm too disappointed. Livestock was a mess on the few times I was in there... dead fish all over the place, and ich on a separate occasion. Prices weren't what I would describe as competitive, either.
