Quadracolor hiding - info/pic provided

i have had nothing but bad experiences with anemones over the years. i have , at one time or another, had almost every type of anemone. i have seen this behaviour before and it has never ended good for me. the only anemone that i have never had to date was a Quadracolor / BTA. i placed the animal in the sand last night. it was a very healthy one too. he moved around and up the rock work and settled in next to some pompom xenia. this morning he was still in the same place. i thought damn, finally got one that looks like its going to be happy. the anemome was under 400w 12k and i put it in a aquapod 24 with 150 HQI MH.
today he was fully inflated and everything fine and happy. this afternoon i noticed him moving back further in the crack that he had wedged his foot in. he has since receded further back into the rockwork and out of site. everytime that i have had an anemone do this, it has spelled the end of the animal. i have read all the faq's listed in the forum and read as much as possible. the only water issue i have is my alk meq/l is lower than i want it and im trying to bring it up slowly with b-ionic's alk additive. maybe i just should never buy another anemone. everytime i loose one, i always say that i wont do it again, but i do anyway. i have a soft spot for them but i cant stand to kill them. i am either getting bad stock over the years or i just flat cant take care of one. i have been told many times " its normal, he's just trying to find a place that he likes" and then i never see him again. provided below is a list of my stock and water parameters for your review. any help with this situation would be appreciated. remember , this animal appeared to be settled , happy and fully inflated and has now dissapeared into the rockwork out of the light.

re-reading of the anemone faq revealed that the BTA's are noted for this kind of behaviour. im just worried because i have had it happen in the past with different anemone's and it always ended up bad. any comments from anyone with BTA experience ?

it looks healthy...i hope the best for you...im kinda goin thru the same problem as you right now...i know that doesnt help but gl.

i say leave him...he'll come out when he's ready; you dont want to stress it out even more if it is already stressed...thats what im doing with my nem...just playin the waiting game

its aggravating when you dont know whats wrong with the nems.

i see him back in the rock work and attached to a rock. should i go after him ? ? ?
No, they are not sand dwellers.

BTAs prefer to be attached to rock in a crevice type of environment.

Much better off letting it find it's chosen location and providing it food and protection along the way.

Make sure it can't wander onto heaters, into overflows, pump intakes, etc.
Keep the pH as stable as possible and avoid dripping kalk, etc., in it's location.

Feed it small bits of food if it will take them, mysis and 1cmx1cm cuts of lancefish are great choices.

All in all it looks a bit irritated, but does not look like it is bleached or at the point of starvation.

Patience and stability are your friend. Let it ride for now.

Good Luck.

thanks for your help. it is greatly appreciated. its not getting much light where he is at in the shadows but i guess it knows how much light it needs.

It will likely move to a more desireable location. If you see it really, and I mean really see it start stretching out toward the light; it wants more and it will likely start moving up the rockscape.

you were EXACTLY correct. i saw it really stretching from
behind the rock work 2 days ago and it has emerged here..
you sure nailed that one. thanks again...
should i be concerned about the close proximity
to the cap and the merulina ?
