Quarantine for snails and macro?

I recently ordered a "Quick Crew (15 Gallon)" from reefcleaners.org. I also ordered 1x "Red Gracilaria" and 1x "Chaeto". They arrived last Thursday and I put them in a 20L QT tank filled with 10G of my DT water, a couple (very) small powerheads and an air-driven sponge filter. I also put the macro in the QT. About 25W of LED lighting about 15" above water with 60 degree optics (2' strip of alternating 5 NW and 5 RB wired in series @ 750ma).

They're for my 18-month old 75G FOWLR which has very little for a CUC currently. I always quarantine all new fish, and I ordered this same "quick crew" a couple months ago and quarantined them for a month - but very few snails survived and the macro died. I think it was probably the less-than-ideal quarantine tank conditions along with not getting enough food.

I'm debating transferring this crew to the DT after only a few days or maybe a couple weeks at most, since I've found conflicting views on the need to quarantine snails. I'd like to get some more input first though before cutting the quarantine short.

I did a lot of searching before writing this post and I did come up with about a dozen threads than may apply. Here's a sampling of what I found with links and brief summaries:

TL1000RSqid says don't

bunzaroo says don't, niqiri says do for 8-12 wks, AJSTITAN14 says 8-12 wks is silly

AquariumBiology implies don't, BEASTIEPEDENT says don't

mscarpena says don't but warns of "pyramid snails", Airwolf75 says 2 weeks, Romulox234 and suta4242 say don't

About a knobby star, NeonFish says they'll use QT with UV

pagojoe says QT for a few hours to reduce stress only

About peppermint shrimp, Guygettnby says QT for a few days (but has been lax himself)

julianp says QT all inverts and macro for 6 weeks

julianp used a QT for an IPSF "Mix-N-Match" order of macro and snails

FW dip and QT is discussed (barely) for clams

LeslieH says stars need to be quarantined ("just like any other item coming into a tank")

racrumrine says no need to QT (in this case) due to just starting out and IPSF being reputable company, but says "be suspicious of" anything added after and mentions pyramid shaped snails

So what's the verdict? Should I continue QT-ing the snails and macro for full 4 weeks? If so, what should I feed them to ensure they stay healthy? Should I QT only the snails, only the macro? Just do 1 week? How bad are "pyramid snails"?

Any advice would be helpful. I don't want to risk my DT but I also don't want to wait a month and kill off half the crew and probably the macro if I don't have to.

Thanks!

From what I've read it's not necessary to QT macro and CUC but even though I've been researching a lot I'm still very new to the hobby so maybe I'm wrong lol

Thanks AmberFL03! That's kind of been my impression as well but I also consider myself "new" so am hoping some more experienced people will chime in.

In the meantime, I found the attached attached to the glass of the QT this afternoon. Wonder if this means I'll have 1000's more snails soon? And maybe that's not such a good thing?

No other comments? Based on what I've read (links in OP), basically just flip a coin? Thanks again!

The post you referenced that I had written was basically how to reduce the chances of the big Nassarius snails attacking new residents and killing them. I never bothered quarantining any snails, personally.

Thanks Don! This week Thursday will be 2 weeks in QT for the snails and macro, so I think I'll call that good enough. While not long enough for fish at least it will be better than nothing. This way everything will get to the DT's better food and nutrient source more quickly and will have a better shot at making it through the first month.

I don't quarantine snails, but I do scrub them with a toothbrush and rinse them before they go in the display. I've had pyramidellids hitchhike in on them before, learned my lesson.
