Quarantine procedures

I personally don't do any preventative measures other than placing in QT for a few weeks when it comes to fish but I'd like to hear of any medications etc. you would recommend or treatment schedule I can give each fish just to "make sure" it has a clean bill of health. I do, however, use Coral Rx on corals before placing them in the display.

What are you all are doing when you quarantine something? When quarantining a new fish, coral etc. before placing them in the display, what is the general concensus here? Do you merely place them in the qt for 4 weeks to observe anything questionable or are you dosing any certain preventative medications or supplements (even if nothing is apparently visible just to be safe), and if so what and how are you dosing? Do you have the same routine with each new inhabitant or do you customize depending on what it is? Any tips, tricks or suggestions you might have picked up over the years?

Thanks in advance for the input

I've honestly seen both methods from two different, successful reefers. I know some people like to dose their new additions with lots of different meds without ever seeing a symptom just to be sure. While this is a sure-fire way to know your new friends won't carry anything bad into the tank, I personally like to just observe. The idea of treating for every sickness possible with no sign seems like giving a person huge regime of perscription pills to treat a headache that doesn't exist.

On the other hand - some people say it's like a vaccination.

Really just a matter of personal preference IMHO.

I give the fish a dip (I recently started using the Blue Life 2 part dip) before I place them ith the QT, then a minimum of 6 weeks in the QT.

i quarantine everything wet for 8 - 10 weeks with no prophylactic treatment.

corals get an additional dip in an iodine based product.

I was able to find anything about the 2 part dip, using a quick google search. Could you post a link to it?

i qt all fish for 8 weeks. if fish is a tang species then i use hypo or copper no matter if ich is detected or not.
