Quarantine question

As far as I know inverts do not carry fish diseases. It is possible for ich to encyst on the shells of some inverts. There have been some threads on here about that.

some folks will say to QT anything that is wet. My personal choice is that the risk is low and I do not. I will transfer inverts to three separate containers upon arrival to try and minimize the risk. It is all about your risk tolerance.

On a side note I will QT coral for a week or so after doing a dip on them. however this is not for anything fish disease related. It is for some nasties that can come in on corals.

I would if I bought them at Petco or something. I know most of my LFS have sick tanks, so I buy all my snails and crabs online from Liveaquaria or Reefcleaners. There is no way I would take a chance with a Petco snail and just drop it in. No way. I have heard many times on here that reefcleaners is a fishless system, which is even better.

i QT anything wet. personal choice, and i am set up for it.

i view QT as a risk mitigation strategy, so i attempt to make it as robust a protocol as possible to minimize my risk of any diseases coming in. i do acknowledge that the risk of introducing a fish disease from an invert is low, but since i have the ability, i use it.

your mileage may vary.
