Quarantine Questions - Sandbed

So my small yellow tang finally died despite my best efforts. I was treating him in a 5 gallon bare tank for ich/fin rot with cupramine and maracyn two. Didn't make it 24 hours.

Went to petco, got into an argument with the manager, ended up with a replacement. Wouldn't budge on a refund. I'm going to go ahead and treat the new tang anyway with cupramine, which brings me to my questions.

I just got a 14g biocube to transfer the fish out of my 12g eclipse system. I have the new tang in the 12g eclipse tank getting settled. I have a 1.5" sandbed, no live rock, and an HOB filter.

I want to go ahead and treat the tang with cupramine for 4 weeks. Would I run into any problems with keeping the sandbed in during this treatment? I don't want to remove it with the fish in the tank. Anything to watch out for during this treatment? Never used curpamine before.

Depending on the type of sand, it is likely that it will absorb the Cupramine. I would recommend removing it. You could do so just by siphoning it out, shouldn't be too stressful for the tang.

It's the aragonite sugar sized sand. Would I really be able to siphon 10 pounds out before draining all 12 gallons? I guess I could transfer most of the water to a holding tank and dump the sand out.

My QT has special grade sea floor sand in it for my burrowing fish, and I haven't run into any problems dosing copper or prazipro. The sand might absorb a little, but you should be testing the level pretty often anyways, and it's easy to correct if it does absorb a little. just be aware you won't be able to use that sand for anything but the QT
