Quarantine tank question

If I setup a sponge filter running in my main tank sump then put the sponge filter in the quarantine tank can I disinfect the sponge filter after the quarantine time and put it back in the main tank? Or should I replace the sponge filter every time?

Yes you can disinfect it and reuse it. Make sure it is 100% dry after disinfecting. Vinegar will work well to kill everything. Sponge is real cheap so it isn't a bad idea to always have some form of sponge in your sump.

So leave the filter in the quarantine tank, but keep the extra sponge in the sump? Then when I need it pull fresh sponge out of the sump to start the quarantine tank up? Throw away sponge after each quarantine...

Yes, I would just throw it away after qt. When you take it out to seed the QT, just throw another one in the sump.

Agreed, actually I take it one step further i keep two in my sump when I swap a seeded out i put a new one in. I keep two so if I have just replaced one for acclimatiin and qt of a new purchase and then say a week later have a concern and need to qt somebody from my DT, i already have one seeded. Its redundant amd maybe silly but this also goes back to the foam is cheap comment.
