Quarantine Tank Suggestion

Snorvich thanks for the link. It is a very informative post that you put together. And I thank you for taking the time to put it together. I have a couple of questions after reading it.

It says to use Prime on the second day during the TTM process to help control ammonia. Why pick the second day versus dosing on day one?

It also mentions to keep separation between the DT and the TTM/QT tanks to avoid contamination via aerosol mist. Does the same apply to the TTM tanks between each tank during the TTM process? Do the TTM tanks need to be separated as well?

Yeah you want them bare bottom. I use large PVC fittings like 4" elbows and T fittings to give the fish a place to hide. Since they're plastic I just rinse them and dry them.

I use the 10 gallons for a lot of fish. For larger fish I will go with 20 longs, but since they're only in those tanks for a short period of time, it's not usually an issue.

I also cover the tops with some old sheets of Plexiglas to help moderate evaporation and stop jumpers.

Thanks Mondo. I was going to pick up the glass tops with the tanks but I like your idea of using the acrylic better. I'll pick up some plexiglass instead, should be cheaper than the glass tops.

I use 2 10g tanks for TTM. One is in use and the other is being rinsed out and drying. I usually only put the second tank by the first one just prior to setting it back up for the next transfer.

I can't stress enough to make sure the tank, fittings and anything else you will use for the transfer have been cleaned and thoroughly dried for at least 24hrs prior to using it again on the next transfer. If you happen to be in a warm weather area you can set the stuff outside to dry good, I do this when the weather is permitting here
