Quarantining an existing reef

Ya, the key is making sure everything is actually dry. If it truly dries out, the parasite can not live. I always heard 48 hours, which is still fine because TTM is 72 hours.

Well, it was dead. I cycled that tank with it. Now it's live rock.
On a side note, just completed my first transfer. Fresh water dip for five minutes between transfer. I now have 2 fish showing signs of ick. 36 hour transfer on the mark.
How soon should it be before those infected fish quit showing signs?

That just means that they were on the fish and are about to encrust and fall off, which is exactly what is supposed to happen. The theory is they'll fall off before your next transfer and then you'll be removing them from that water so they can't continue to cycle.

You probably won't see anymore after the next transfer, but there could still be some buried deep in the fishes gills which is why you do a few more just to be safe

Ok. Just completed the third transfer. I did it at 28 hours instead of 36. I will be busy this evening.
I've been doing a freshwater dip for 5 minutes between each transfer and one before the initial one. My tang still has white dots on it. It cleared up within an hour of tranfering last time. Should I be concerned with this?

First transfer at 36 hours
Second at 28 hours.
According to the info I read, this is acceptable. As long as I allow for it. May have an addition al transfer

Made my third transfer today at 30 hours.
Sad to report that my foxface died this evening. Have no clue what happened. That fish was extremely hardy. I guess the stress of changing tanks so much and the fresh water dips did it. My yellow tang doesn't look great either. Seems any process to quarrintine is hard on fish.

I'm trying to get rid of urenoma on 3 clown fish and I just did a freshwater dip for 5 minutes before putting them in the new tank and those things were absolutely stressed out. Took them quite some time before they were acting normal again.

I am assuming they're now urenoma free since it seems like freshwater should kill any of it that could potentially be on them, but I'll still likely do it one more time.

Also, are you FW dipping them between every TTM? You don't need to do that, just transferring them is enough.

Yes I am dipping each time. One thing that prompted me to start this thread was velvet. I had a mimic tang that appeared to have it. After my first failed attempt at QT, I decided to dip between each transfer. I am now on the forth round. I will send them to the final QT tank later this evening.
