How long do you quarantine DD fish?

If you normally treat your fish with PraziPro and Cupramine regardless of symptoms, do you still do it for DD fish?

i have never bought a fish from DD, but if i do, i would treat it exactly the same as if i buy from any other store.

even though i have at times skip cupramine on certain fish that are too sensitive to it.

Divers Den fish have a premium price because they are pre-quarantined, but I find it kinda pointless. Most likely, they will get Ick or another disease because of the shipping stress to your home.

If it were me, I would QT DD fish.

Shipping alone will not cause any disease.

And "most likely" ?? Over the years I have received at least 20 fish from DD. None, I repeat none came in with ick nor any other disease.

Don't you work for a different vendor?

This was my personal experience.

When I said 'Most likely" i meant if they would get a disease, it would 'most likely' come from the stress of shipping.

And no, i don't work for another FISH vendor.

i still do 2 prazi and light cupramine. i dont go as aggressive on the cupramine as i do with fish from other sources.

But, you do work for another vendor.

Just curious... how long does Liveaquaria QT their DD fish? Do they QT them in copper?

I've bought from Liveaquaria before but never from their DD. My wife would friggin kill me if I ever paid that much for a fish/coral.

From LA website:

The quarantine period for each fish ranges from a minimum of two weeks to several months for more delicate species. Throughout the quarantine period, all of the fish are monitored closely, with particular attention to breathing rate, swimming behavior, and overall appearance and demeanor. Once the fish have passed a thorough inspection, they are ready to be acclimated and moved into our main fish system.

DD minimum 2 weeks, clownfish 4 weeks.

To combat common bacterial infections such as Vibrio, therapeutic baths containing antibiotics such as kanamycin, nitrofurazone, Neomycin and other commercial antibiotics are given. Open wounds on fish are treated and healed with a special topical treatment. In addition to the baths, all quarantined fish are treated with copper sulfate and a 37% formaldehyde solution to combat Amyloodinium ocellatum and Cryptocaryon irritans.

They say they quarantine everything for 2 weeks minimum, but I have been there and seen some fish for sale after about a week(and not the ones in the new arrival/QT room). They do not treat all the fish, they just treat anything that comes in sick(it almost never will get sick there, the water can't get any better and is unbelievably over UV sterilized.). There are a few fish that they will keep for longer, but those are usually noted when selling. Stuff like Regal Angels and Moorish Idols, though they don't do it with all of them.

I have bought fish from DD and I would definitely still QT. The stress of shipping to your home could be enough to let a disease spread if there is even one little critter on the fish.

Fish from DD are just better because they are generally very healthy and more ready to adapt to your tank.

Thanks for the info! I'll check out DD next time I place an order with them. I've yet to lose ANYTHING I've ever bought from them, although I have had to treat for diseases.

Well, not actually. They should be quarantined for disease no matter what the source.

Most likely, they will get Ick or another disease because of the shipping stress to your home.

Not really. Stress does not cause parasites

If it were me, I would QT DD fish.

Although the conclusion is right.

Which is not correct

And no, i don't work for another FISH vendor.

How about full disclosure. What vendor DO you work for?

I will not discuss. I'm sorry this isn't working out, I am not being clear.

You are right, the stress of shipping ALONE may not cause any disease or parasite, but everything from getting used to the new home, acclimating to their surroundings, and potentially having a new diet can stress the fish, which may wither its health.

If it were me, I would QT DD fish.
