all i know is that it is very hard to keep. this is my third attempt of trying to keep it alive. this time it is acctually starting to grow.

It's a rock, a ricordia, a sponge, a zoo.

oh you mean the blob in the middle? I think it's a terrorist hideout.

Is it slimy? If so it's kinda like red bubble algae, but it doesn't really spread. I usually pop those things when I see them and they slime like crazy.

I thing you're right. I saw a thread not too long ago with a pic of those. there was one reddish pic and one that looked bright green but that was it and they were snake Zooa's.

This is not really true. My understanding is that it is basically a red form of the green bubble algae most of us have seen. It definitely does spread as I have it pop up every once in a while. I had one rock that almost overgrew the zoo's I had on it. I put it in the shade and that seemed to get rid of the algae (and the zoos of course).

Anyway, I don't recommend promoting it's growth in a reef tank because just like most macro algaes it can and will choke out some corals if given the chance.

Trottman, Saw the tread the other night and thought "That looks alot like the Red kelp that grows in my tank except that it appears to be in grape form"..so I just open a Fosters and Smith catalog and there it is "Kelp on rock" Red Grape 6"-8" #VT-80766$29.99 http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=662&N=0 FYI .. my smooth leaf varity looks exactly the same as far as color and light speckled apperance apparintly this only grows under ideal conditions for it and is recomended and surprisingly pricey ....congrats

I am pretty sure this is just another type of bubble algae. I don't think it needs anything special to grow as I'm not adding anything or testing for anything. I've got about 15-20 nitrates usually and I suspect that is the "ideal" condition it needs to grow.

I have a few bubbles of it...mine hasn't really spread since I got my nutrients back under control. It has a tough exterior and will pop if tug hard enough.
