Queen Angel having problems eating

I have had a queen angel for about three weeks now. He was reluctantly eating food but recently stopped. The last few days he was snapping at the food but appeared to be missing it. Today he was trying to eat and his mouth wasnt moving, he was motioning to the food like he wanted to eat it but it just was bouncing off his lips. Did a search for lockjaw and only found info on puffers and lionfish. Any help would be appreciated.

I never heard of that personally. I would suggest that you try to give it something to pick at, such as nori, rather than something it has to chase. See if the angel is actually able to pick at the nori. If it can, we'll know that the problem isn't related to its mouth.

The first thing I thought when you mentioned that he was missing the food pieces was that he might be blind. Do you see him swimming more slowly than he should be moving? Does he bump into anything?

Keep us posted.

Does he have flukes? I know that nobody thinks that they have pests, but this is very common for a large angel and especially one that won't eat. They get in the gills and mouth area. They are also very easy to cure.

Have you or the vendor you got it from been feeding Krill. I have heard that Krill can cause lockjaw. There is a couple of threads on here about this, just have to search for it.

Thanks for the replies. He doesnt seem to move his mouth at all. He picks at the rocks and nori sheets. He seems to be getting better with his aim, he gets the food about once every three tries. He is definately not blind, he has nice clear eyes and swims through all the caves and crevices without bumping into anything. I am not feeding krill and neither does the LFS. Maybe hes just a little spastic! How would I know if he has flukes?
