Queen Angel - juv. to adult variability

I got a queen last summer . She's now around 6.5-7". I love her colors. A nice combination of yellow and blue. Shes very similar to the one Triton Z posted earlier on the thread. Will try to post q pic soon.

here is what Kevin from LA/DD said...
"Looks like a Brazilian queen which tend to be more yellow with a slight aberration void of any markings along the length of its body. Also looks like he's been in an aquarium for several years."
Just asked what he meant by the last part...about being an aquarium for sev years...will get back soon..

Here is what he said...still talking with him....."It just has that look to me...... lack of body weigh/slightly pinched in the posterior and overall coloration."

haha, here is his correction...from Kevin, "Should have said even body weight/muscular structure as the fish is actually slightly overweight. Cool fish."

more from him...Could have a bit of bermudensis genes in it I guess but the coloration is very yellow for that. Would be curious to see what Julian thinks as he has seen thousands of them.

haha, we are having fun discussing this fish...
here is what Julian Sprung said, "Not a hybrid. The color is a sign of dietary deficiencies-- a very pretty artifact of the deficiency. If the diet were very poor it would be pale yellow, but you have enough pigment to achieve this nice shade. Some Queens from Brazil are naturally more yellow like this."
I just asked how can be sure it is dietary and not a Brazilian..will get back....would love to hear from Copps and Luiz Rocha...

I still don't get how you end up with no blue whatsoever at the base of the pectoral fin on a queen regardless of the shade of yellow of the body.

Losing such s significant color marking is uncommon though the eye spot on the bluface angel does come to mind...

My queen. Had her for about 2 years then she developed a sudden mouth infection and lost the ability to eat. :(

I have an adult blueface also that was raised from a juvi, my avatar, that doesn't have the eye spot. Surprised that it would be a diet issue. It eats everything I feed the tank including NLS pellets.

I don't think it's a die issue, and it's probably your blueface that I'm remembering...

IMO the coloration on the queen could be diet related, but I think is also effected by genetics.

The blueface eyespot I highly doubt is diet related and there is a probably a certain population that loses it.

Some nice pics in this thread though! Nice to see some love for fish in US waters.
