Queen conch's shell is very thin?

My queen conch appears to have added about 1/2 inch of new shell (not the conch's length, just the width of the new shell portion added) within the past month. There is a problem, though. It appears that the new part of the shell is very thin. I can actually see through it.

Is this normal?

Yes this is normal, I think. I know all my clams and snails start out growing a thin shell and then it gets thicker as it builds up.

I was scrubbing some algae off of my queen about a year ago and chipped off some of that newly made shell. despite it being thin, it grew back and is now solid.

Also be sure your water contains enough calcium---usually not a problem [unless you have corals] if you do your regular water changes---sometimes an issue if you have strange goings-on with your ph.
