1st question ive asked on these forums so here goes.
I'm doing a 10 gallon sump for my 50 gallon saltwater only could fit a 10 gallon, anyway. Im wondering how big the return area has to be in the sump. i will be putting my skimmer in where the water 1st comes in its a psk100 eshopps skimmer the 75-100 gallon one. I was going to do about half the 10 gallon for the skimmer then do a bubble trap then the return. So I should have left about 6-8 inchs left for the return is that enough?

Thank You

should be enough. I have a maybe 4-5 gallons return area for a 60g tank and it's fine. The main consideration is that your return pump matches the over flow, and that there's no constriction along the flow path

I'd do a 20g long... You get extra volume plus space to move your heater into the sump rather than in the tank. Plus more space to work.

If we had the power to alter the laws of physics and fit big things in spaces smaller than them I can think of a lot of things we could do with our tanks that would be amazing.

I'd go big game fishing for mahi and marlin in the 300 gallon tank that's no bigger than a thimble. It would be awesome.
