question about a H Mag

How big do they get before splitting.I know some may never split,but what is the size they reach for the ones who have had them split.Mine is around 16'' across ,it is touching the back glass and almost the front on my 75.

DIVISION is only 1 form of reproduction, as far as I know they will reproduce when conditions are right .Its not based on size I have had LT [red base] divide several times under halide .

I had one, reddish base, divide when it was maybe 14 inches. My other one, purple based has divided twice over the years, in both cases it was about a foot across.

DrPat, LTAs don't divide from all the reports I've read.

No one really knows or have scientific knowledge of when or why they split... In theory they can split at any size maybe to better the survivor rate based on the tank environment. I have personally seen a 16" Ritteri/magnifica and it has not split yet.

They split with stress just like BTA. If you want you can manually divide them. There are several cases where people chop them up and they will do just fine. There are several thread about this here on RC.

Thanks guys,I was just curious.I have read threads where they have been manually split,I wouldn't attempt this with mine.

Minh, I believe they split from both stress and also they sometimes split when they are not stressed--exactly like BTAs. BTAs are not always stressed when they divide.

I had a rbta that got huge and never split,while some of the others(rbtas) in the same tank would split often,some type of btas don't get as big as others and split like crazy.
