question about a metal framed tank

I was thinking about changing my 75 to a 125 i have in storage. Only thing is one person told me that because the tank has a metal frame, it wouldn't be good to run a saltwater tank. the metal frame looks to be either stainless steel or aluminum. Is this true? Sure would be nice to run a 125 instead of a 75.

The metal framed tanks are not a good idea in a saltwater environment. Aluminum will oxidize and corrode as will stainless steel. About the only metal with any significant service life in a saltwater system is titanium. This is why things like grounding probes and chiller coils are made out of it instead of other metals.

yes it's an old metal framed tank. it's even sitting on an ugly metal stand... it's been sitting in storage for quite some time now. thought about running it salt until someone told me not to. he said the same thing that rich said. by the way thanks for the information rich. thought i'd check it out to see if what the guy was saying is true. know anyone who would be interested in it?
