i just bought my first 2 acan lordhowensis colonies a couple of weeks ago... from all the pictures i see, i was thinking the polyps were much bigger than what they acutally are... also, the two different colonies i got have 2 very different structures... one of the colonies have very fluffy but small polyps... the polyps kinda reminds me of candy cane corals... it has distinct separations between each polyps but they are no bigger than the polyps of a blastomussa merletti...

the other colony has bigger polyps but still no where close to the size of my blasto wellsi polyps... the separations between each polyp is not as disticnt and the flesh is very close to the skeleton as compared to the other colony...

here are two pictures... both are supposed to be acan lordhowensis but as you can see, the structures are very different between the two colonies...

They look right to me. Maybe post a side by side so we can see the difference. Sometimes it is hard to tell the actual size of something with macro photos.

the first one if the one that i was talking about that reminds me of candy cane corals but the polyps are no bigger than that of blastomussa merletti...

the acan in the second picture have polyps that are a little bigger but it is not as puffy as the one in the first picture...

They both look perfectly normal to me too. The frags may have been taken from a side of a colony- which would give you smaller polyps typically. Treat them well, and they will grow just fine. As far as differences in 'puffiness'- that will change all day every day. Depends on lighting, water flow, available food, etc. I wouldnt be worried about them.

Aussie lords come in different shapes and sizes. Some have skinnier longer polyps and some have more rounded shapes.

I purchase this lord two weeks ago--since then the white polyps have dissappeared and it is all a uniform pink colour. Is there a problem here??

it was double the size but fragged by the supplier while I watched.

capn be careful the elegance coral will sting the acan you might want to give it a little more room just my 2 cents

why is it almost upside down?

it isn't--I was standing on my head when I took the pic .

the way it was fragged I place it on its side----I didn't superglue it as yet as I am trying to find the best location.

The urchins had knocked that over a bit before the picture.

I thinking of interchanging it with the zoos on the rock below to give it less light:confused:
