question about acans

this may sound stupid, but how do acans grow? Do they encrust a rock or do they form a structure like a brain? The reason I ask is I want to pick some up for my tank, and am wondering about placement in the tank and their growth patterns. All the pics I ever seem to see on here is some chopped up little frag of something on a plug.

That's a good question... I always assumed they encrust but you know what they say about ****u*me*ing

from what i heard they encrust but they do form a skeleton as it encrusts. if i'm wrong let me know.

How do you go about fragging them then? Say if the encrust onto LR that you want to keep. Will the skeleton pop off the LR, or do you have to chisel the live rock off?
