Question about backorders

I placed an order little over a week ago. One item was not in stock, so it was placed on backorder. On Thursday it was shown on your website as being in stock again. It showed in stock Friday and Saturday as well. Now as of today it is out of stock again, and I never received a shipment email.

How are backorders filled? Do you not fill backorders first before items show up as in-stock?
