Question about biocube 14 HQI

I was looking around on nanotuners and saw that they offer a 70W HQI hood mod for the 14 gallon bio cube. I really want to get this but was wondering what everyone else thought.

Here is a link

Nano tuners 70 W

One of my concerns is that it does not have accintics. I do not think that the heat would really be a huge issue.

I would really like to be able to keep a clam and some hard corals.

Thanks

Nick

Hey Nick...sure sounds cool! I just got the 14g Biocube for myself and for my Mom....we will be following along to see the responses you get as this would be way too cool!

Yeah it seems like it is just the next step in moding. I have already changed the pump to a maxi jet 900, which made a big differance as well as taking out the bio balls and puting LR rubble in chamber 2. Next i am going to add the refugium light to the back. After that i want to do something with the lighting, it is either the MH or adding another PC. I really want clams though.

We are going to add LR rubble to the 2nd chamber too.....just haven't done it yet but after reading everyone else's they did it so we figure we will too. Haven't changed the pump out....do you get a lot more flow? We just want softies in both of ours and some zoos etc

Yeah the mexi jet 900 gets 230 GPH vs the stock getting 106. It does not fit perfect and the tube kind of has to bend to get it in. I currently have a leather brain zoos and something else i do not know what it is, and they are much happier after the mod. I would highly recommend doing it.

I also have the Biocube 14g, and wish it had more lighting. I also replaced the pump with a maxijet 1200 and like the flow. I also have a 150W pendant hanging over it.I have seen the 70W HQI in person, and wasn't impressed with the output. If it were me, I would look at nanotuners for a higher watt PC hood or a 150W mod of some kind. Unfortunately it probably will cost more than the tank. It's too bad that all the nano tanks come with such basic lighting and pumps that they have to be modded. JMHO

I have a 70watt sunpod for my 14 cube and I think the lighting is just right. I would not keep sps under the 70 watt but everthing I keep under the bulb does great.
