question about getting rid of soft coral...

I really need to get rid of a ton of xenia, anthelia, and kenya tree coral. They have grown out of control in my tank a few times now. I really don't want to get rid of the rock though. What do I do after cutting them from the base? I need to figure out how to get rid of the leftover attached to the rocks. Any suggestions? And obviously I have quite a bit so anyone that wants it for free is welcome to it. :)

Try freezing a water bottle and then holding it against the foot of the pieces you want to detach. All the other methods I can think of would involve killing and decay etc.

Be sure to save some frags to bring to the Frag Swap on March 1st!

I want some xenia--- I have lots of LR that is soaking in the sump that I could trade you out for your covered rock.

O.K I will start removing them this weekend and once they re attach to rock rubble I will start messaging people. I'm sure I have enough for everyone who has asked so far. You can also pm me at (ahullsb). I accidently posted this under my roommate's account.

Just sent a PM Am interested in getting some of your soft corals when I get back in town Thursday.

We're all happy to take his clippings... But to the original question: Besides my 'ice to the foot' does anyone have another "neutral" method of dis-engaging the specimen? How can you take it without killing it or leaving a frag???

Only other way I know of is scraping just underneath, being sure to get a piece of the rock as well. It's fairly easy if the rock can be pulled out of the tank, but if not it is much more difficult.

Yeah, Even if there's a nub of Xenia there and water conditions are favorable - it'll grow back. Good luck.

I'm in the process of weeding back Nephthea that has overgrown my tank. And I too now have some of the base (tree trunks) left attached to the rock and was wondering the very same thing.
