question about leather

so i got an umbrella leather from fewell's and i was curious about something. its only opening up at night and when it opens, its not fully open. Matt knew about this and told me about it when i bought it from him, so i thought i'd give it a try in my tank.

anyone have any ideas? all my other corals are nice and open and growing like mad :)

btw, i've had it in my tank for 2 days now if that helps with the advice.

Well, it depends on the coral, umbrellas have personality. I have 2. It took both of them about a month or so to truely acclimate to my lights. Even after 7yrs now they sometimes freak out. Mine usually comes out about 5hrs before the tank lights shut off, stay open all night and pull in when the lights kick on. It just takes them a while to calm down. Sometimes it doesn't come out at all, sometimes it stays out for days at a time. Watch out for star polyps, or LPS that send out and chemicals because they will sting them. Also, they can be sensitive to hands in the tank and such. It'll be alright, just give it some time to adjust to your lights. Keep in mind, these things are collected relatively deep on the reef, and an halides will take some time to adjust. They also molt, and will turn really shiny and not come out before they do molt. If it's not attached to live rock it isn't comfortable, so let it attach and settle down. They're cool and get super huge! Good luck.

hey thanks man. i'm glad i showed up at the right time today to see all that stock. it was all looking good. can't wait to dump some more money in there haha.
