Question about lights

I have a new 24g Aquapod w/ PC lights. I found a good deal on a 24" Maristar light w/ 1x250hqi and 2x24w T5. I don't think heat will be an issue because the light will be hung about 8-10" over the tank and it is also underneath a ceiling fan. Anyone think this will be overkill? I'm not doing SPS only zoo's right now.

I had a 30g with a 250w MH and everything had great growth. A 150w would be perfect, but I say do the 250 if its a good deal. Also be sure to acclimate your corals to the light.

I could get the 150hqi but it would cost an extra $88. I'm worried about melting my zoo's with the 250hqi but I can't beat the price. Anyone else have any ideas?

Lay several layers of fiberglass window screen over the top and every 3 or 4 days remove one layer? That's what I've heard of other people doing when making big light changes...

250 will be fine. Just do the change gradually. I have over 10W/G on two of my tanks...It looks nice. I like that fiberglass idea. I always lower the time for the first week or two, adding a half hour a day for the mh.

Well I gave in a ordered the 1x150hqi and 2x24w T5 Maristar fixture today. I figured there will be less heat and lower power costs. I will try to post some pics when it comes in on Friday.
