Question about Maxi-jet mods and magnet holders

I made a maxijet 1200 mod and now I need to buy a magnetic holder for it. I was thinking about the sure grip 50, but I can't tell if there is a place to glue the powerhead to. Does anyone have any suggestions as to the actual brand of magnetic holders to use? Thanks.

Can anybody tell me, what is the difference in the 1500gph mod and the 2500gph mod? Is it just propeller size?

it's not pump size, cause the 1500gph kit will fit either a 900 or 1200. I think I found an answer on their website though, it looks to be just the prop size that does it. well, prop size, angle, and all other factors with the prop.

Is 1500gph too much in a 55g? with 700gph return pump?
That'd be like 40x turnover. Overkill?

I don't think so. I push 45x turnover in my 29g and had things flourishing until the light incident. I have my mod mounted to a static surface, which has limited my ability to direct flow. If I could adjust it, I'ld put it in my 29g. FWIW, I've already done it once, and it wasn't too bad. It would be better if I could point it towards the rocks and not the bare sand.

It's the pitch of the blade and the 1200 does have more torque than the 900. Thus being able to spin the prop with the pitch that's set for high flow.

sweet, that makes me feel better travis, especially since I just ordered the kit, lol. Got the ball socket mag holder for it too, so I can direct flow better. Finally, I can get those stupid powersweeps out of my tank!

I won't be "getting rid" of them, just getting them out of my display tank. I'll be putting them in other tanks that I'm working on. BUT...if I do replace them in the future, I'll throw you a PM first.

I had a Zoo Med Powersweep once. It didn't even sweep right out of the box. I got it at Petsmart and the mgr there told me that they rarely work more than a month even if you do keep them clean.

I got Really lucky I guess.

That is the first power head I bought and it now resides in my nano and still "sweeps" great! Thats after about 4 years of constant running.

Its nice to be able to turn down the flow and not blow the water out of the nano.

Mine sweeps but it takes alot of coersion to get it to do so. I have another in my 20 that doesn't sweep anymore, and another in my moms tank that sweeps only half the time.

Just my 2 cents here. Be careful handling those mag mounts. I managed to break mine 3 times in 3 different places (2 different mag mounts). The magnets are very strong and outside the tank can unexpectedly snap together abruptly - jarring glued joints...

I have a large container of plexiglass glue if anyone inadvertantly snaps off any parts.
