Can red, blue, or green millies grow into each other (touching side-by-side)with no ill effect? If I take 3 frags of each color and glue them together would they grow?
Different corals chemically react different with each other, as you have probably read here on the boards. A. Milleporas typicaly will win the battle, although I have a prostrata that seems to be wining a battle right now.... In any case the chances are that they will fight to some extent, what that is no one really knows. If you got the frags give it a shot.
I think he's talking about gluing just A. millepora frags to A. millepora frags. Kinda like what people are doing with the montis. It would be very awesome if it works, and I don't see why it wouldn't, but I honestly don't know.
I understood, but even mille to mille being different colors I'd bet they wouldn't play nice. Emsters piece, if that is the one you are referring too, is quite beautiful. I would also say quite unique. I cannot find montis that agree enough with their internal chemistry's too duplicate what he has done. I've tried with various color combos but they always fight.
It is nice to see that he got it to work, would be curious if others have pictures of successful mergings.
The fighting between different montipora could be explained by their actual species difference. Finding two of the same species should allow them to not fight when they come in contact with each other.

I suspect the many of the different milli's out there are different species and subspecies. You can give it a try and hopefully luck out. If you are lucky enough to have to color variants of the same species it should work.
