Question About my Clam--- Pic

how about the same light over a 12g? it is a hang-on type so i can adjust the height and put a fan to cool the tank
sorry to jack the thread

An SG of 1.023 seems alittle low. We keep our SG @ 1.025
What are you using to test your SG and is it accurate/ calibrated?

Have you checked your calcium levels and if so what are they?
PH stable?
Alk?
What are you feeding?

What staggering? He just have one bulb so it's either on or off. Having two or more bulbs then you can stagger.

I mean having the bulb on twice a day, with a "rest" for the coral inbetween, like he is (was) doing at the start of the thread because of heat issues. I'll see if i can find the thread.

this is just generalized bleaching. not fatal, but needs attention to lighting (too much or too little) or temperature issues.

I am now lighting my tank 8 hrs per day 3pm-11pm my temp stays at 80 and 78-80 at night I’m using a fan blowing over the top, the only thing that sucks is the evap about a 1/2-3/4gal every 24hr period. My salinity is at 1.023 I use a refractometer my cal is at 460 everything in my tank is doing very well.

So im puzzled at why my clam has some bleaching he opens way up and seems to be doing well also? sept for the discoloration.

Change in light intensity sometime cause clam to partially bleached, especially when they got stressed with change in temperature. They will recover without problem.
Evaboration is the price of keeping the temperature down, you may as well suck it up and take it like a reefer. Think of it as way to add Ca (as in Kalk addition to the tank).

colourmop,
12 g with a 150 W is a little much. I am not sure if you can keep the temperature down. Why get the 12 g, just get a 24 g tank. 12 g is so hard to keep because it is much more dificult to keep it stable.
