Question about new tank build.

I in the planning process of a new in wall tank. I would really like it to be 6 foot long X 4 foot tall X 24". My question is would 1" Acrylic be enough? If not what about if I down sized to 5 foot long X 4 foot tall X 24" and last resort would be to do 5 foot X 40" X 24". I would think Acrylic would be the best build material for an in wall but would glass be a better bet price wish? I was also thinking of a plywood tank but I would rather not its gonna cost more than 1000 in materials. Also does anyone know of a better price on 1" Acrylic than this place.

It's not the length so much as the height that dictates the thickness of the sides. It is the weight of the water pressing outward and down that will cause you the greatest concern. Since you want 48" height at either 60" or 72" long you are still looking at 1.25 - 1.50" thickness for safety's sake.

At only 24" wide you will not have enough room for rockwork, let alone coral growth. At 48" height you should consider 36" wide as a minimum, and 48" wide for best rockwork and optimal gas exchange at the surface, IMHO.

I agree 100%. My 46" tall tank is 1 1/4 thick and I woudnt go less than 36" wide. If you go any less you will find it hard to aquascape.
