Question About Off Camera Shoe Cord

Hi folks. I just bought a Sakar brand digital flash for my Canon Rebel XT DSLR but the camera store did not have an off camera shoe cord in stock. I shopped on-line a bit but the only cords I see for Canon are made by Canon and supposedly, may only works with a Canon Speedlight. I'm wondering if this shoe cord will be compatible with the flash I bought or not? I'm new to this equipment buying stuff so any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated. What exactly is a shoe cord, never heard of it...........

If the flash works on the camera, it should work on the shoe cord. Its just and extention cord. Has the same mount.

Thanks MCary. I've been told that it won't work by someone who sells them retail so I'm going to return the flash I've got and get a Canon.
