onyx clowns are just like perculas, but black right?

where can i find a pair? how much do they cost?
do they breed easily?

oo, and offtopic:
how old/big do ocellaris clowns need to be to start spawning?
is there such thing as a pair that doesnt spawn together?
because im buying a pair, and dunno if they have hatched any eggs yet.

There are a few types of clowns that people sometimes get confused with onyx.

There are the ORA TR occelaris black clowns...they are all black except the end of their face (that usually turns black with age too) Those are not onyx.

Then there are true percs that dont have enough black to be considered onyx. To be onyx it has to have black connecting both the front and middle bar, and the middle and back bar.

Some breed ... some dont... that cant be guessed or answered if they breed easy. Your best place for a pair is Rods-reef. He breeds them. Other than that you can get them from Live aquaria OR try and get lucky and order a pair from PNG... they have the highest percent of onyx that come in that I have seen. If you buy them as "onyx" they are gonna cost you between $50 and $80 each avarage. If you just get lucky and find one labled true perc they will be alot cheaper $20-$35 avarage.

Usually "pairs" in a fish store are just 2 they threw together and they dont fight... probably have never seen each other in the wild. If you get a proven breeding pair (laid eggs before) they might lay eggs as soon as a few weeks. a "pair" from a store or LA could take as long as 2 years to start laying or as soon as 2-3 months... or they might never lay ...
