Question about plumbing

I am worried about the 1" reducer to 3/4" its threaded and only threads up like 4 threadding so theres a space insiflde the reducer that wather can back up and possibly leak?

If it's a 90 reef ready make sure you do herbie drain and not dorso

It's pretty much dead silent when tuned right

A gate valve would be best option. But a ball valve will work. There is many shops and stores and even local people that would have gate valve available

If you do herbie use a high quality gate valve. For that size tank I don't think it matters. Both my tanks (105 and 60) have 1" drain and 3/4 return. On the larger tank I reduced to 3/4 at the bulkhead.

Your tank will have 2 bulkheads. 1"&3/4" use the 3/4 for emergency drain. 1" for main drain. Then just plumb a line behind the tank and over the top for return pump. This would be your best bet.

I agree with rovster. High quality gate valve will make life a lot easier.

What came with the tank was a 1 1/2" overflow pipe reduced to 1 inch has a hole with a piece of hose sticking out. The return pipe in 1inch. Do i have to do the herbie?

You don't HAVE to but I also recommend to do it just on the noise alone. I also agree that in a 90g tank you don't need anything bigger than a 1" drain and 3/4" return. What brand tank did you get?

Just reduce the return to 3/4 at the bulkhead like mentioned above. Keep the drain how it is, unless you want to drill the glass for a new return or want to run the return over the top. (assuming that this is the single overflow model)

I finished it heres what it looks like the 2 unions are touching after all the fittings decided to go in more when lubricated (like anything else)😀
