I was checking the forum and I can't believe how big these tanks are. :eek1: How much time do you guys or gals spend on them weekly? I have a hard enough time with my 90 :)

Some weeks, 20 minutes a day. Other weeks I can spend an entire day and every night after work. It varies depending on what issues are being handled or what projects are going on.

Ditto. I would say on average I spend the same just tweaking things, wiping glass etc.

Every Sat morning I do a water change, clean out my skimmer, scrape coralline, replace media, etc. which takes me about 1-2 hours.

i'll tell you the same thing i tell all my neighbors that are completely freaked by all the 'strange' lights coming from my house.

i HAVE to spend about 20-30mins a week maintaining my system assuming i test once a week.

i DO spend most of my free time playing with it :).

It's my hobby and I really enjoy it, so I spend a lot more time "playing with my system" than is actually necessary to maintain it.

Npw and then...

Npw and then...

Now I am spending 4-6 hours every Saturday doing maintenance and water changes, 5 gallons at a time, on my 120G and 180G tanks...

In a few weeks, our 340G tank should be up and running. I have planned many hours so that the new tank will be largely automated, and I can do a 12% water change in about 15 minutes without even turning the main pumps off...

Hopefully, in our case, bigger can be better...

I HAVE to spend 1 hr a week on mine. I usually end up spending 5 hours a weeks on average tweaking, dorking around, playing with the shrimp, ect :)

LMAO!! Yeah, my neighbors ask me the same thing!! I think they think I am growing something inside my house!! I tell em I am, Acros and Acans!!

I only have a 180g, but I spend on average about 10 hours a week, and most of that time is spent feeding my fish/corals, cleaning glass, or fixing corals that keep getting knocked over by my Dussumieri Tang!

bigger better

bigger better

I clean my skimmer ones aweek it takes 5 min. I had smaller tanks in past the smaller more work, bigger the tanks get the less work it is .

I totally agree. The bigger the tank the less amount of maintenance there is. Started 16 years ago with a 29g and probably spent 25 hours a week on it. Also I think experience an knowledge plays a key factor in minimizing maintenance time.

I'm still off work, and recovering from surgery so everything takes me 5 times as long. My system is designed to make a water change take less than 10 mins. I spend alot of time puttering and such though trying to make everything how I like it still as I'm still setting it up. My 225 that I had before I had down to about 10 min a day, and sunday was 'puttering' day...
