Question for Aquapod owners

I've just recently bought an AP 24 with the Sunpod light. The Sunpod is actually separate from the tank itself (there is no hood directly on the tank). They did include a glass top you can put on top of the tank though.

My question is for anyone else who has one of these aquariums with the Sunpod. Are you using the glass top or not? I know fish will often jump out of the tank, but I'm concerned about the Sunpod (which is a MH light) causing too much heat buildup in the tank. Can anyone give me some insight about this?

i have a AP12 w/ 70W and im not using the glass lid. im running it with an open top because i read around that it will in fact trap heat and raise temperature.

I have the 24g AP with a Finnex MH fixture. Mine is topless, and have had no fish jump. I have a clown, purple firefish and yellow watchman. I did use white egg crate for awhile, but it started to turn yellow and not look that good, so I tossed it. Its been completely open for over a month now with no issues. Dont use the glass top because it will trap heat, as someone else mentioned, but it also will not allow decent gas exchange.

I'd be weary of not using a top. I wouldn't want to use glass, but at the same time I wouldn't want to put a fish - ywg are famous for finding a wa out- that could possibly jump in at the same time.. Just be weary of it or try egg crate if it doesnt get too hot under MH

I also have a 24 gallon Aquapod with a Sunpod light. I quit using the glass lid because it got salt creep and dust on it all the time and required constant cleaning. When it got dirty it seemed to block out some of the light too. I like my tank a lot more without the glass lid. I like seeing the surface of the water and the whole tank rim stays cleaner without it. the only fish problems I have wouldn't be stopped by the lid anyway. My fish occasionally slip into the filtration chamber because one of the slats on the grill broke off so they can fit through it.

Thanks for all of the replies. For fish, I'm currently planning on getting a clown and a firefish. Not sure if either of those are prone to jumping or not.

You can pretty much expect to eventually loose the firefish without a top. May get lucky, but 9 out of 10, they will jump.
