Question for TBS..

Regarding feeding all the various and numerous filter feeders that come on TBS rock, I have been told by a very knowledgeable and reliable source that phytplankton such as DT's must be fed in quantities much larger than normally recommeded (up to 10X) and also on a daily basis in order to even have a shot at keeping most everything alive and thriving long term.

Can you please comment, and do you agree?

Best to ask the folks here that have the rock, as I never feed as the rock comes and goes so fast!

Overfeeding is not a good thing either so get some input from our customers!
Thanks

i feed dt's 2-3x per week at the recomended dose.after a year almost everything is still alive. all the bivalves are fine, tube and cup corals are still with me and sponges come and go. i also feed cyclopese 2-3x per week

This is what I use. I know a number of other TBS owners around here were using it, although I have not looked recently to see if they still are.

I feed it every other day. I have a bunch of sea squirts that have survived for a year now. And a big oyster who is still alive. And it sure makes the hermits run around like crazy! I guess it smells good. :-)

you can get reef chili from ebay and it is quite affordable - i use reef chili in the prescribed amount every third day and give a little shot of micro-vert every other day - some of my filter feeders died, but I have lots of new growth now, including new sponges, new growth on some of the coral colonies, and a ton of new feather dusters are living in my sand now.

Please post some new updated pics!

ure thing.. I'm out of state ATM, but when i return I'll take a whole grip of new pictures.

the camera has been pointed at the new cat more than the tank lately :)

I'll try to get a few pics of our pico project(s) too, but nothing much to see yet.. Be sure they will get TBS rock when they are ready for it :)

did find a few pics from my last session.. the blue and orange sponge are new, and there are a few new polyps growing between teh two colonies in the coral pic.

I am 99% sure that #1 #3 are tunicates.
the pattern of holes is a dead giveaway.
they are good -- filter feeders like sponges.

on #3 there are some things that might be new corals or gorgonians growing ....

a photo with good focus would help.

looks like the "arms" end with more "arms" and if thats true then they are not anemone and not single polyops ...

looks good :)

#1 is almost impossible to get a focused pic of because it is no a rock sideways and it is a bowfront tank, so pictures not taken dead-on are all distorted.

I'll try to get a better pic of the new growth on the encrusted rock later - i didnt even notice it was there when i was taking the pic.

we are unfortunately suffering a pretty bad bloom of hair algae, so it's not too pretty, hopefully things will settle down as teh tank matures.

I've had my TBS rock for about two years now. When it arrived, the 30 lbs of rock had about 20 turkey wing (bivalves) attached....most 2-3 inches in length. I fed on and off with Kent phytoplez and DT's....but not on any set schedule and always recommended doses or less. After two years I have 2 big ones left....the rest died over the years, most of them within the last 6-8 months. All of the cup corals are still thriving as well as many of the sponges.
