Question-for those of you without a controller

Lowe's sells a surge protector that is like 4' long with 8 outlets (I think) spaced out enough to fit multiple timers side by side. I can post a pic if you want. That said spend the money and buy an apex. It shutting down a heater outlet if it gets stuck open is worth the money alone not counting every outlet being completely controllable for time/temp/ph/ect

Thanks for all the responses everyone. Still trying to decide on LED, that may make a difference, otherwise will prob purchase a couple of the squid cords.
Hope this helps. I used these LEDs

Connected to this dimmer,

Powered by this lower supply

Out of the 20 led pieces, I only used 4 and was more than enough for a 75 gallon tank. I run the dimmer on the lowest setting, the LEDs are pretty bright. With the leftovers we built some more moonlights on friends tanks and all they had to get was the dimmer and the power supply.

The 5050 LEDs are waterproof. I have not tested it myself but I know they are meant to be used in outdoor setups. I had extra wiring that allowed me to run the dimmer and the power supply outside the tank, and i used the built in double sided tape that came with the LEDs to stick it to the edge of my lights. So far no issues after a year and a half.

It was the best quality stuff I could build at the time that gave me the most flexibility at a lower cost.

+1 on the Apex (or Reef keeper depending on budget). BRS TV has a great episode on their tank setup series on why this is more economical than you think. Automation is the difference between enjoying this hobby and being owned by it.

And I just realized that you post is not about which moonlights to buy, lol. I guess you should read posts a few times right when you wake up.

The coralife power strips that have a night/day feature will do the job until you get a controller (best money you can spend).

what????? Come on guys. I bought a drill there years ago and it is still working as new. Not everything they sell is crap. Also, these timers are probably made by the same company in china.

It doesn't matter if you buy them from amazon, walmart or harbor freight, they all come from china. Therefore, they are all built with the cheapest labor and materials available.

+1 $$$ don't always equate to quality.
