hey did you find the answer. im considering using 2 on my return and the pump i belive does almost 1000gph. i have also read conflicting info on the scwds performance. so im interested to find out how its working for you
If you used it with that much flow I would drill out the three hose barbs on the SCWD for more flow and less restriction. You should set it up so you can take it off line easily and soak it in vinegar once a year or so.
3/4" scwd is a p.o.s its good for nothing but the trash
get the 1" which is serviceable ive had 2 3/4" go bad after just a few months the 1" you just open it up find out what the problem is and fix it. the 3/4" it stops working and you have to toss it
i dont want to hijack the thread. but i should let ya no my set up. right after the return i have a ball valve so i can shut the water down. i will also be drilling 2 small holes in either return line so that there will be no back siphon should any thing happen to the return thus letting the plumbing be serviceable as well. the pump is a little one 4000hh. so a one inch isnt necessarily going to work unless i rework all the plumbing
I was running 2 3/4" on my Iwaki 70 rlt(1560 gph). They have a minimum gph rating or they do not cycle well. They did wear out every year or two.
I have switched to a 1" for the reasons mentioned above by "ssericz"
i am going to try the 3/4 inch scwd on my tank. and if it breaks i will open it open service it and glue a pvc screw end cap to it so that it may be serviced again and again.
You can't open it without breaking it and the parts inside all sizes other than 1" are non serviceable no screws to remove parts it's all glued in place I have a couple broken ones u can come cut up so you can see
iv found some DIYS online as to how to fix them. i would love to come look but im not likely any were near ya. but thanks for the offer. id love to go with the 1 inch. my tanks plumbed for 3/4 though.
i bought the 3/4 yesterday it was 40, couldn't bring my self to pay and extra 40 or so for the 1 inch ill let ya no how it works for me. also bought a hydor circulation head. i think its a cool idea. spins in the same manor as the squid. spins in a circular motion as the water runs through it.
the hydors are cool but they gum up and jam aswell but just take a small tap to start spinning again. You should have spent the extra 40 bucks in the long run its a much better deal and much less headaches for years of use.
