Question on CCGC Corals

Hi, I was wondering if the Australian Big Polyp Blastomussa, (http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=597+2341+2513+2669&pcatid=2669)

is 1-1.5" wide - as in the size of the coral or the size of the disk the frag is on?

For instance this piece here:

has 15 polyps and is 3".



I don't think I've ever seen DFS/LA sell a wild caught "Big Polyp" Blastomussa. Is this true?


Lastly, if I were to order a "two-head" CCGC Big Polyp, would the frag size be double, 2-3"? And finally, would you happen to have any pictures of a "double head" Blastomussa on hand by any chance?

Thank you for your inquiry. The size listed for the Australian Big Polyp Blastomussa is the size of the plug the coral is shipped on. We currently have a few wild caught specimens available in our Diver’s Den from Malaysia and Australia.

We are checking with our Aquaculture Coral & Marine Life regarding the size of the double head Australian Big Polyp Blastomussa, we will post that information when it is available.

Thank you for your patience while we contacted our Aquaculture Coral & Marine Life Facility. The double head Australian Big Polyp Blastomussa generally measures approximately 1 ½” to 2”. The single head polyps tend to inflate more than the double polyps as they have more room to spread out. Please contact us with any other questions or concerns.

Is the "Big Polyp" also the same as the wild caught one's currently on your DD section? Or are these even bigger than those recently added to DD section?

Thank you for your reply. The Blastomussa corals we have available in the Diver’s Den are the same as the Australian Big Polyp Blastomussa offered on LiveAquaria. However, the Diver’s Den specimens range in size from 1 3/4” to 4 ½”. If we can be of any further assistance please feel free to contact us.

Thank you very much. I have noticed that some of the wild caught Blastomussa's have a very vibrant green center, I'm sure you're aware of the one's I'm talking about. The one's that sell very quickly due to their striking colors.

Is the red/green CCGC Blastomussa as colorful, or will they color up like the wild caught?

I would prefer to stay with CCGC corals, but I may have to make a sacrifice and purchase something wild caught.

Thank you for your reply. The brightness of color will vary from coral to coral. However, aquacultured corals, provided water quality, lighting and proper supplements are added, should have no problem coloring up as well as or better than wild caught specimens.

Thanks Michelle. I was just wondering on the available stock. I am already signed up for the "notification", however often times when I get to it, at the end of the day, whatever I signed up for, is sold out.

So I was just wondering if there were healing frags in the facility somewhere, waiting to be sold. I hope I can make it and purchase a beautiful piece of that Chalice.


I was really looking for a tip as to if there's any frags healing and will be ready for sale soon. Oh well.
