Question on chilling rate

Would a chiller which is rated twice the capacity of my tank be able to cool faster if I had more rocks? I have A 500l shallow tank + 100l sump. More rocks means less water. But the fact that the chiller is rated double shouldn't be a problem even if the rocks are much less? Right ?

Having a slightly larger chiller is a good thing, but too large and you loose efficiatcy a slow tempature rise and fall is much better then a quick tempature change. For the most chillers rated for the capasity of tank is all around a better choice. Now if you are getting a good deal on a larger one my suggestion would be to move the water as fast as possible that way there would be less of a thermal transfer and cool the water at a slower rate.

I am running on hailea hc500a on my tank. Used to had plenty of rocks and the chiller will actually run for 2.5hrs and stopped like 4hrs. After rescape with minimum live rocks ,Nowadays chiller run longer and starts again faster. It's running on an eheim 1260. It's set by external temp controller and using 26deg set and 27.5deg kick in.
