Question on Favia/Brain

I bought a favia/brain that had 2 different species on the same skeleton... One of the speices has had several polyps die... The other species looks fine and none of the polyps have died..

I dont know why these polyps died.. i feed phtyo every other day and some cyclopeze every now and then....

Any quesses as to why some of the polyps have died and will they flesh grow back over the exposed polyps??

How long have you had this coral in your system? Is the receading coming from the part of the coral that receives direct light? If the receading does not stop dip it to stop the receading.

It was a brand new addition to the thank and recieded alittle towards the back center of the coral... not from the edge but from the center and down to the edge..

What would i Dip it in?

Will the polyps grow back?

Dipping it sometimes stops it from receading. Luigis dip for corals has seemed to work well for me in the past. The polyps may or may not grow back. If not it will eventually grow over the dead skeleton if it is so far gone. Try moving the coral in a dimmer spot. Sounds like it has gone from a tank that was not as well lit as yours or it is closer to the lights in your tank. Try that first and if that does not work try to dip it.

favias and favites mostly eat zoplankton and things like mysis or brine shrimp.if you can find it 2 little fishes zoplan its a great lps food!

Iv never seen the sweeper to feed it zooplankton... I have some though...

Iv seen it really swelled up once.... Lights out are around 7:30 and I go to bed around 8 (i get up at 3:15 am for work) so i dont get to see to much night time activity.
