Is there a difference b/t using a dipping solution(coral Rx) for parasites after you frag them, or should I be using something else for the cut tissue to heal?

I prefer using a bath of tank water and a very dilute amount of revive. Stronger solutions only further irritate them IMO.

I use an iodine solution as a dip, either povidone or TMPCC. I find dipped fresh cut frags heal more quickly with less edge recession, and not just zoos. I dip after fragging acros, chalices and acans as well.

Reef Bass, is that dip solution use also for the parasites? I think that is what I am really get at. if you use the same solution for both process.

If the piece you are fragging is suspected of having a parasite then I would do a FWE dip.
If you are just doing a dip to help heal the cut, then anything like the
Coral RX, ReVive, or even a Lugols dip ( all in tank water) would be enough.

thanks for the replies guys, I am getting a better understanding now. mfinn, you wouldn't use Coral RX, ReVive, or even a Lugols dip for parasite dipping than, just the flatworm exit. is there a big difference b/t these products or just personnel preference.

I use iodine solutions (povidone, TMPCC, Lugols) as a disinfectant primarily. In my experience, iodine is not a big killer of parasites, though it can stun them enough for them to loose their grip on a frag and be shaken or blown off.

If you're trying to eradicate pests, I would use something more specifically targeted towards what you're trying to kill.

My beliefs exactly.

I use to do the freshwater dip with lugols and a couple drops of FWE, but have switched to a high dose ( 4X the recommended strenght) FWE in tank water.
Seems to really blast the nudi's in a matter of 15 to 20 seconds.

i've seen flat-worms, Nudi's, mini-stars etc crawling around in a 2-3x strength Lugol's dip even 24hrs of bing in there. It does make them fall off the piece though, but I wouldn't say it is 100%.

+ 1 for FWE and a drop of lugols. I used fwe for the first time a few weeks back and the crap that came racing out of the cracks of my frag was amazing. In the past I'd only used fresh water dips, but the FWE plus a drop of lugols' is now my dip of choice.

okay for fragging I would use a iodine base solutions. If a get new frags or colonies before putting them in the main tank, I would dip in the parasite solution and what type or does it have to be specific for the parasite?
