Hiya folks

Has anyone here been to the Georgia Aquarium?

I have a chance for a quick trip to Atlanta for the weekend. How long does it take togo through the Aquarium and see it all. I want to enjoy it and see it all...not necessarily fly through it. I am trying to work it into a schedule though and need to no how much time to allow.

Hi TitansFan,
My wife took me there for a birthday present which is pretty cool if you ask me, but it took about 3 hours to get down there. You need to remember that it is also on Eastern Standard Time so you loss an hour there. It took us about half a day, but I really took my time and immensely enjoyed myself. We got in at 10:00 and left at about 3:30 or 4:00 got home in nashville at about 9 but that was because of traffic. Hope you enjoy it, the large tank is absolutely awesome.

I went and didnt really care for it IMO chattanooga and ripleys are ALOT better, but they did have a few cool things their big tank is pretty cool.

We did it...made it through in about 2 hours-ish. My advice - GO RIGHT AWAY IN THE MORNING!!! We went an hour after they opened on a Saturday and as we were leaving it was a madhouse. Take your worst nightmare and add 3,000 little kids to it and you're getting close...

I think it was definitely worth it. Between the "wall" at the very beginning and the whale shark exhibit, I could have spent 6 years just staring into the water...

On another note, the staff was very nice and knowledgeable. I heard a few little kids say, "Look, it's Dori!" and the staff said, "That's a tang" and helped the kids identify the others. They also helped me with a few questions too!

we were just there last saturday and it's not nearly as crowded as it was the first several months it opened. We made it thru there in decent time and I think they laid it out pretty well, too.
They just opened up the Coke museum which is suppose to be pretty cool, too but we didn't make it to that. It was a concert weekend for us so time was kinda limited.

But the ride home then should only be 2 hours. :)

My wife and I went last summer and really enjoyed it. We spent around 2-3 hours there. Didn't feel rushed at all and felt that we were able to see it all

There was a post recently, I think maybe in the photograhy forum, that had maybe 100 pictures of it... it looks really cool. You may want to give it a search... :)

I'm planning on going, but I'm not sure when I'll be able to.

I went this year in march. Make sure you take the BEHIND THE SCENES TOUR!!! I believe it is 50$ per person, but it was well worth it! You would be amazed by the equipment they use for the reef exibit. Huge Skimmers, Huge wavemakers, the lights in that place could give you a tan! Its amazing! They even have a shallow area for young fish its like a giant refugium with plants and everything, you would never know was there unless you take the tour. Plus you can walk on this platform above the main (whale shark) exibit and they swim 2 feet below you, as close as you can get without getting in the water. Many more great things to see as well. frag tanks, vet unit. list goes on and on.
They dont talk about it at all to visitors, you have to approach the Customer Service desk and ask them about it and they will sign you up for it. Its kind of a secret, they dont want tons of people doing it.

thanks for the input guys and gals.

The behind the scenes tour is one thing I was really considering. At $50 a person it was something I would hope is worth it. Being that this will be probably the only time the wife and I are at it without the kids I may jump on it. Hmm walk me past some frag tanks.. hmm that would be so tempting..

Now does anyone know a LFS nearby I should visit? I will be staying at a hotel right down from the aquarium.
